Some of the world’s top drivers will be among those behind the wheels of 240 classic cars, including 24 Ferraris, racing them at events across France. This is the exciting formula for the Tour Auto Optic 2ooo, which this year marks its Silver Jubilee.

Ferrari 250 GT Berlinetta, a rare Ligier JS2, and four Ford GT40s will be joined by a host of Jaguars, including both MKI and MKII models and 12 ETypes. More than 800 people will follow the rally, with some 100,000 spectators expected along the route in a motoring spectacle which is a highlight of the Peter Auto’s season.

The cars, which had to have been made between 1951 and 1973 to be eligible, first go on display at the Grand Palais in Paris on April 18. The official start is at the Château de Courances the following day. Then the cars set off to do battle in the timed events on private circuits and closed roads on a route that this year takes in Lyon and Valence on the way to Cannes with a closing event on April 24 that includes former rally champions Ari Vatanen and François Chatriot.

German cars will be represented by BMW (official car partner of the Tour Auto Optic 2ooo) and Porsche: BMW 1600, 2002 TI and Turbo, 2800 CS and 3.0 CSLs plus Porsche models from the 356 to the 914/6. Other cars on the entry list include AC, Alfa Romeo, Alpine, Aston Martin, Citroën, De Tomaso, Lotus, Mercedes, Morgan and Triumph.
