Jaguar co-founder's bespoke Mk X up for auction
A 1961 Mk X built for Jaguar co-founder Sir William Lyons is expected to fetch up to £100,000 when it goes under the hammer at Blenheim Palace on September 3.
With a 3.8-litre, six-cylinder engine and a top speed of 120mph, the Mk X was one of the fastest cars of its time. Featuring Jag’s then-latest design language, it was also an imposing spectacle on British roads — it remains a distinctly wide car at almost two metres across. This particular example comes in Opalescent Dark Green, with a beige leather interior.
“We are honoured to have Sir William Lyons’ personal car in the sale, and what a beautiful car it is,” said Nick Wale, managing director of Silverstone Auctions. “This car has a very special history but it is also a very stylish and elegant car to own. Every inch of the car says luxury. Cars like this just aren’t made anymore.”
