Top 5 Classic Cars by Classic Car Hirers

The UK’s and Europe’s largest classic car hire portal and classic car sharing economy site, bookaclassic.co.uk knows a thing or two about classic cars, with over 15,000 classic cars on their books in over 20 countries worldwide. BookAclassic conducted a survey of the top five classic cars hired out throughout the UK.

Here are your four-wheeled winners:

1. The Jaguar Mark 2: You can not help praise the choice of the hirer for this absolutely stunning car. Built between1959 and 1967 in Coventry, England. British television fans will recognise this beautiful piece of machinery as it was driven by non other than fictional tv character  Inspector Morse and British film Withnail and I. The car that originally appeared in Inspector Morse actually sold at auction for around £100,000. The most popular choice for wedding and event hires.

2. Classic VW Camper Van:  Every VW enthusiast adores this vehicle. It may look different to what you perhaps define a classic, but this van constantly creates memories for its driver and passengers. Something of a free feeling when driving around. Perfect transport for those music events, camping and even a perfect wedding car.

3. Ford Mustang Convertible: The classic american driving icon of the 1960’s and 70’s, originally built for speed and power, but eventually sales declined rapidly over the years due a variety of changes and developments which became focused on becoming a ‘luxury’ rather than a car for the ‘petrol head’. In 1964 the car famously made automotive history by unveiling the mustang to the public in the movie, Goldfinger. One of the most memorable scenes in the movie was the car chase between Masterson in her '64 Mustang and Sean Connery (Bond) in his DB5. Bond won the race, and of course, got the girl.

4. Fiat 500 Lusso: These old school Italian darling’s were built in Torino between 1968 and 1972, replacing the original Fiat 500 that was designed by Dante Giacosa. Plenty of these cars are seen around the London area and certainly viewed as a very quirky classic to hire for weddings and events.

5. Citroen Traction Avant: A 1950’s french class car that actually wouldn’t look out of place in the Godfather. Built during a very difficult financial time for Citroen, this french favourite for car enthusiasts is a bit of a movie star over the years. According to movie data base sites, this car has been used in over 1300 movies, including The Sound of Music. This car was also responsible for pioneering mass production of three revolutionary features that are still in use today: a unitary body with no separate frame, four-wheel independent suspension, and front-wheel drive.

BookAclassic CEO, Claus Stig Christensen said: “ There are so many beautiful classic cars out there and as a nation we are so fortunate that many are still in existence for car enthusiasts to drive.  it is important that we keep them on the road and keep sharing the beautiful pieces of machinery that were once made and not to totally replaced with self driving technology.”
