1968 Jaguar E-Type
“The Red Rocket” was originally owned and used by it’s previous owner Mr John (Randall) Burton, Chairman of the E-Type Register for the world famous and longest running Jaguar owners club, the “Jaguar Drivers Club”. The car was his track car, competing with him at the wheel in many events across the country, including the lead car at the the anniversary of the E-Type celebration. The car was widely known for having a Series III bonnet, with a Union Jack painted across it. The car however at the time was very tatty and in a desperate need of a complete restoration. This car is a Series 1.5, built June 1968. Restoration was undertaken during 2006 and 2007. Many of the original parts from the car have been restored and reused, however where not possible, the part used is to the original specification. The brakes, steering and suspension, have been upgraded to allow for modern day driving. The car has matching original numbers, except the Body number. This was never recorded by Jaguar Cars Ltd. Curiously a Body number has appeared, lord knows where from! Eris Biass (President, Jaguar Club, Geneve), drove “The Red Rocket” up the famous Prescott Hill Climb, thirty times and he “loved” it. David it’s present owner since 2011 bought it still in it’s “Restoration fresh” condition, commented that “you could eat your dinner off that engine bay”, such was how clean the car was. He first set eyes on the car quite by chance, whist taking his then broken 2006 Jaguar XK8 to his mechanic Barry Sheen. He said at the time, “wow that’s just beautiful”, Barry replied “You can have it if you want as it’s up for sale”. That was it, he had to have it. David has since taken the car back to Prescott Hill and Goodwood for Jaguar Drivers Club events. There he proudly reunited the car with Mr John (Randall) Burton, who has been quick to comment on how well it presents today.
