1939 Chrysler Royal Windsor
Hayes Coupe was a custom bodied club coupe designed by famed designer Ray Dietrich who worked for Chrysler at the time. Bodies were custom made to order by the Hayes Body Company in Grand Rapids, Michigan. They announced a limited run of up to 1000 cars, spread across 3 lines. Chrysler, DeSoto and Dodge. It is speculated that perhaps 300 were actually made and remaining bodies went to scrap for the war effort. My car has Hayes body #265. The color is called Regal Maroon. It does have overdrive as many of the Chryslers of the period had so it will do 75 easily and will keep up with highway traffic. The paint is a very old restoration but it lovingly cared for and looks great, even up close. The interior has been recently redone in correct mohair upholstery. The rear seats will comfortably seat 2 regular sized adults and will fold up behind the rear cushion for added storage if needed. The car does have seat belts added. Trunk is large enough for a day away and a picnic if desired.
