1952 Bentley Mk VI Sport Saloon
1952 Bentley Mark VI by H.J. Mulliner 'Lightweight' Saloon Chassis Number: B142NZ H.J. Mulliner & Co Design: 7243 Body Number: 5391 United Kingdom Registration Number: CVV62 California Registration Number: CREWE This Bentley is a special all aluminum light weight 4-door saloon coachbuilt by H.J. Mulliner & Co, and order by the owner of H.J. Mulliner, i.e., John Croall. These all-aluminium lightweight sports saloons were build for more discerning customers searching for a faster, more exclusive, driver focused Bentleys. At a fourty percent premium over the standard steel, these aluminium 'Lightweights' were built for Bentley's most discerning customers wanting more stylish features. In 1951, this design was the direct predecessor to the Continental coupe which started also in 1952, sharing the same chassis and aircraft inspired construction methods. What makes this particular car even more desirable is that it is powered by Bentley's Big Bore 4.5 liter straight-six engine, demonstrating a healthy power increase over the previous 4.25 liter engine, as well as being fitted with dual exhaust pipes. Only 41 of these aluminium 'Lightweight' Saloons were produced on the MKVI chassis by H.J. Mulliner & Co between 1951 and 1953, however, making them considerably rarer than the Continental (N=208) though providing a similar if more practical driving experience.
