1974 Rolls-Royce Silver Shadow
In 1965, the year this model was introduced, $18,000 could buy a house, a really good college education, ten Chevrolets, or a Rolls-Royce Silver Shadow. Today, for the price of a new Camry, you could buy two or three of these (check eBay Motors)… but these are a lot more fun! Even though it’s over 40 years old, it glides down the highway, it’s still tight, and it’s rattle-free and quiet at 70 mph. (Or 100.. hmmm..?!?!?) You really can hear the clock ticking while sitting at a stoplight. There were less than 17,000 of this model ever made, from 1965 to 1977. Chevy makes that many before Tuesday. Most all were made to order for the original owner, by hand, by a small group of professional craftsmen in England. Of all Rolls-Royces ever built since the company started just after the turn of the (last) century, about 65% are still roadworthy; a far, far greater ratio than any other make, ever. They were technological marvels when they came out: they have a wildly complex hydraulic suspension leveling system, three different brake systems, lots of electrical bells and whistles (many of which are standard on everything today), but not a single computer or chip. They also have lots and lots of leather and wood. The wood is book-matched burlwood veneer, also found on the finest world class furniture. The glove-box door is one-inch thick walnut. All the drive and suspension systems in this example function quite well, offering a ride that is smooth, quiet, and connected to the road. It's a tight feel, but not nervous like a sports car. It's also not anything like the floating, removed-from-the-road, vague wafting ride of 70's Cadillacs and Lincolns. Today, $300,000 could buy a house, a good college education, ten Chevrolets, or a new Rolls-Royce… or about 15 cars like this one! This car is available for anniversaries, events or photo shoots. For weddings, ceremonial white wedding ribbon is included, running from the top of the A-pillars to the Flying Lady hood ornament. It is an original car, with the original paint and interior. Up close, its age is apparent... but it still turns heads like few others. Royalty, heads of state, celebrities, captains of industry, and now, perhaps... you. DriveShare precludes detailed pricing. $400 covers the first 4 hours; $75 for every hour after that. Chauffeuring by the owner is included; therefor no security deposit is required. Different pricing terms/durations are easily arranged. Service to locations outside of Mid-Missouri is by arrangement. Thank you!
