Why moving a booking, payment or conversation off the platform is risky, the scams to watch for, and how to protect yourself, for renters and hosts.
Everything about a booking on BookAclassic (messaging, payment and the booking itself) is designed to stay on the platform. That isn't red tape: it's what keeps both renters and hosts protected. Anyone who pushes you to take the deal elsewhere is asking you to give up that protection, and it is often a sign of a scam.
What you give up by going off-platform
- Insurance and protection cover, which can be void on an off-platform booking.
- Fair handling of any security deposit or damage claim.
- Payment protection: only payments made through checkout are covered.
- Support and dispute help if the trip goes wrong.
- A clear record of what was agreed.
Scams to watch for
- Being asked to pay by bank transfer, gift cards or cryptocurrency.
- An offer that it is "cheaper if we book directly" away from the site.
- A link to an outside page that asks for payment or card details.
- Pressure to decide quickly, or to move the chat to email, text or another app.
- A request for your contact details before any booking is confirmed.
- An "accidental overpayment" that you are then asked to refund.
How to protect yourself
- Keep messages and payment on BookAclassic from first enquiry to drop-off.
- Never pay outside checkout, however convincing the reason.
- Don't share contact details or outside links, and don't act on ones you are sent.
- Treat urgency and unusual payment requests as warning signs.
- If you are unsure, check with us before acting.
Hosts: accepting payment off-platform can void your protection and your payout guarantee, even if the renter suggested it. Renters: only bookings paid through checkout are covered if something goes wrong.
If someone asks you to go off-platform, or anything feels off, report it through in-app chat or support@bookaclassic.com. For why some messages are stopped automatically, see Why was my message blocked?.
