The three rental types, how they're priced, and what each one means for you.
Every BookAclassic listing is one of three rental types. The type is shown on the listing and decides how you book and how the car is used.
Self-drive
You drive the car yourself. Self-drive rentals are priced per day and have eligibility and document requirements (see Renter eligibility requirements). Insurance is offered in the US only, and US self-drive bookings may require a security deposit.
Chauffeur
The owner or a professional driver drives for you. This option is popular for weddings, events and special occasions. Chauffeur rentals are priced by the hour, so you book a number of hours rather than full days; some hosts set a minimum booking price for short bookings. The host or a professional driver is the only person who drives the car.
Event hire
The car is supplied as a centrepiece for a photoshoot, film, display or wedding backdrop, and isn't driven by you. Event hire is priced per day: the host sets a required daily rate. Hosts can also set an optional hourly rate (capped at the daily rate, so a sub-day booking never costs more than a full day) and an optional minimum booking price. As with Chauffeur rentals, you don't drive the car.
What changed: the old platform marketed wedding, chauffeur and self-drive hire as separate pages. On the new platform these are three clear rental types you can filter for, each with its own pricing and rules.
On a Chauffeur listing, the location you give is where the car comes to you and where your journey starts. The chauffeur returns you to that same place at the end. For event hire, the car is brought to your location. For self-drive, you and the owner agree on the handover point.
